For Memorial Day weekend, the official kick-off to summer, we always go down to Long Beach Island, NJ to my husband’s family’s home. Normally, it’s beautiful weather for swimming and sunbathing, but this year it was the complete opposite: cold and wet. I thought for sure that would deter my girls, but our little fish couldn’t wait to get in the ocean! The next day it was even colder, but my eldest Fancy Girl didn’t care. She grabbed the boogie board and ran into the ocean when it was 57 degrees! That same day, I hopped online to look for kids’ surfing lessons, figuring she was ready for it. That’ll be on our checklist for later this summer. It also got me thinking about the whole surfer girl style. LBI has a plethora of surf shops that carry brands like O’Neil, Billabong and Roxy that come in children’s sizes. I have always been a fan of Roxy, and my eldest Fancy Girl’s own style has become a lot more sporty/boho/chill, which is how I would describe the surfing aesthetic as well. Now that summer is pretty much here (and swim team starts up soon), it’s prime time to get those swimsuits ready for the season. If you have some shopping to do, here are some of my favorite surfer girl-inspired looks.
