My youngest received the Paw Patrol On-A-Roll Art Desk for her birthday last month, and at the time, I didn’t realize just how much of a miracle worker this little toy would be. She took to coloring right away and so I added it to the bag of stuff I bring to dance class every Tuesday and Thursday. I also bring the iPad too, which had been the only thing she asked for. But at some point it was like a switch turned on and not only did her fine motor coloring skills improve, but the art desk was the ONLY thing she used while in the waiting room. She uses it in the car too. Pretty much anywhere we go that requires us to wait for an extended period of time, the art desk comes with us. Which leads me to my next example, which just happened this week. I had originally planned something else for this week’s Friday Fresh Picks, but when the art desk proved to be a gift to me as well, I had to share and tell anyone that if you have a preschooler to shop for, get him or her this desk!
So the short of it is that my sitter got sick on a day where I had to go film Facebook Live for one of my clients. And we film these broadcasts in a wine cellar in the “basement” of the restaurant. Not exactly kid-friendly right? After back-up options didn’t work, I decided to take her with me. I packed the usual dance class bag of coloring books, the iPad and the art desk.
When we arrived and waited at the restaurant for a bit , what did she ask for? The art desk! When it came time to go downstairs to the wine cellar, I plopped her in the doorway with the art desk so I could keep an eye and ear on her and set up filming for my client. Wouldn’t you know.. she did not make a sound! I even put the iPad down there with sound on mute just so she had something to keep her busy. But NOPE.. she wasn’t interested. She just sat there coloring for about the 10 minutes we needed to get filming done. I cannot tell you how relieved I was. Well, you can probably guess by the fact that I’m writing about it here. When my client saw how great this art desk was, he said he would have to get one for his sone too (also a Paw Patrol fan).
So here I am telling you that 1) if you have a preschooler who likes to color, you need this in your life, 2) if you have a preschooler to shop for, buy this for him or her. There are other characters available that I’ll share below, and 3) taking deep breaths really do work in times of stress and anxiety. They helped me calm down and let happen what was going to happen that day.
