It’s New Year’s Eve 2018! It has been a few weeks since reactivating the blog, and I couldn’t let the year end without blogging about our NYE tradition of making DIY headwear for our family dinner at a local diner. The only requirement that I have for this craft is that everything is purchased at The Dollar Tree – the best of the dollar store chains, IMHO. This year I outdid myself because I spent $50 worth of feathers, masks, hats and more! My eldest daughter also had a friend sleeping over the night we made the hats, so I had to get a little more than I usually do. In general, this is what you will need to make your own NYE headwear:
– hot glue gun
– foil headbands
– paper top hats
– feathers – either boa style or attached to Mardi Gras masks
– ribbon
– and anything else that says NYE for you
Once you have all of your materials, then you can spread them all over a work table and let your kids have at it (provided that you are around for supervising the hot glue gun). When the girls were younger, I had to help with construction of the headwear, but now they can pretty much do it themselves. Have a look below at some of their creations:

I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve! Do you have any traditions with your family?
