Happy First Day of Fall! Here in New Jersey, the air is finally feeling like the season. The mornings are cool and crisp, and everywhere you go, the signs of fall are all around – yay pumpkins! I personally love this season for all the colors, scents, tastes and the cooler air. But we’re also still in that awkward weather phase where it’s chilly in the morning and then warm by afternoon. It’s not time to pull out the bulky sweaters and jeans just yet, but there are a few things that can help with the transition. Here are 5 of our picks for making that transition from summer to fall (Note: this post contains affiliate links. Thank you in advance for shopping here!):
1. Infinity Scarf– this is one of my eldest daughter’s favorite things! It’s functional and super cute, plus it’s a little more grown-up. Justice has an assortment of colors and prints; I would look at your daughter’s closet to see what color would coordinate best with what she has.
2. The Open-Front Cardigan – For when it’s cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon, this add-on will keep her warm but won’t confine her to the bulk of a pull-over sweater. The cardigan also allows for long wear of those sleeveless summer dresses that she just can’t give up yet. There are a lot of great, affordable options at Old Navy.
3. Jean Jacket – This needs no explanation as to why a jean jacket is an essential! Make yours fancy by adding a sparkly broach like this one! Oh and by the way: the 80s/90s are very much back again, and light denim is a must! Check out 2 options from Forever21 Kids — one of my favorite places to shop for my eldest.
4. Tights – One of my favorite ways to make summer clothes last longer are tights with shorts (here’s how it looks for grown-up Fancy Girls). Gone are the days when you can only do solid colors: Mixed prints are in and kids usually think nothing about putting some “interesting” combinations together. An easy one if you’re just getting started are polka-dots, florals and stripes. One of THE BEST places to get tights that will last forever is Hanna Anderson, and a lot of styles are on sale!
5. Mid-Calf/Ankle Boots – Depending on how cold it is where you are, this is the time to put away the sandals and break out your boots. The lace-up ankle & mid-calf boot are always fall essentials, especially when there are a lot of leaves on the ground to walk through. The ground is dewy and it’s not so fun to have your toes exposed to wet leaves and grass. Below are two of my favorite picks for fall: Fringe, Moto and Combat. Shop the looks below.
