*I received a FitBit Charge from Sports Authority in exchange for my reviews. My opinions are authentic and my own.
For as long as I’ve been a mom-of-3, I’ve been saying that I need to wear a pedometer during the day to see just how far I walk when I’m running the house and town for the girls. And then a saw that a friend had a FitBit and was in a challenge with her husband to keep each other accountable to the 10,000 steps. I’ve always wanted a FitBit and just never got around to getting one for myself. But then after falling off my own personal wellness wagon this summer, I decided to get serious again about nutrition and fitness and find the right tools that made sense for my busy day. If I was able to do it before (I dropped all the 3rd baby weight last year by Christmas) and I can do it again! I’m thankful to Sports Authority for giving me the boost I needed with a FitBit Charge! It tracks steps, distance, calories burned, floors climbed, active minutes and sleep. It also includes Caller ID and vibrates when you’re getting a call.
I only just started using it this week, but I’m totally hooked. Unlike weight loss programs that make you accountable to your weekly (or daily) weigh-ins, FitBit only makes you accountable to 10,000 steps a day (the rest you do based on your own goals). And if that seems unattainable, I can tell you it’s not! I was a little intimidated at first–and admittedly thought it was unrealistic–but I hit the 10,000 mark by late afternoon on a few days, and then some. Sometimes you just need a visual remind to stay on your game and push yourself further. I’m still just getting started with the FitBit and have to give it some time for me to see and feel the results, but here are 6 reasons the FitBit is helpful wellness tool:
- It’s easy to set up and instantly syncs to your app and computer for immediate results. (see below for a few of the steps involved)
- My girls think it’s so cool that it tracks my steps and that I have to reach 10,000 a day, that they ask me all the time to check them. I already involve them in my fitness activity, and they know how important it is for me to make time for staying in shape. I started doing more ballet-inspired fitness because of their own love of dance as well. It’s something we can all enjoy together.
- I’m more conscious of my movements and have already added more to my day. I’ve started doing more music & movement videos with my youngest and will use the fitness tracker on the FitBit app to make sure I reach 2 miles when I walk with her in the mornings. I will also do a little extra house work at night–even if I’m exhausted after dinner– just to make it to the 10,000 mark.
- You can connect with Facebook friends and then invite them to join challenges (or in my case, wait to be invited to one). If you’re someone who does better with support from others or enjoys the good fitness challenge among friends, you’ll love the challenges. And since the FitBit is doing all the tracking for you, all you have to do is move!
- In addition to the app, you also have access to a desktop version that includes a community forum for sharing stories, tips and getting support.
- Since activewear is such a huge trend, the FitBit is completely acceptable to mix in with your trendy arm candy at work or for a girls’ night.
The above photo was at Day 1, Step 0 on Monday, October 5th. As of Thursday evening (when I took it off to charge), I reached 46, 923 steps.
I would love to hear your FitBit stories. Any fun challenges you do on your own or with friends? Share away and stay tuned for more updates from my journey to get back on track.
