Kids fashion is increasingly taking notes from the runways of adults. It shouldn’t surprise anyone, though, that kids want to dress like the men and women in their lives, but it’s also important that there are options out there that are still age appropriate. Fashion trends for kids also tend to be repetitive: bold & mixed prints, romantic florals, pops of color and geometric patterns will always fill the shelves of children’s collections, but there are a few specific trends to take note of for Fall/Winer 2015-2016. According to Magic, world’s largest fashion marketplace, the 3 big trends in kidswear for fall/winter 2015 are:
Space Science: “The Space Science trend pays homage to this era’s space-age fascination through children’s clothing. Sleek fabrics and metallic trims mimic space. Colorways of silver, grey and white replicate the twinkling of familiar constellations and comets. ” Key details: snap closures, metallic zippers, graphics, foils, celestial prints, outer space & rockets, and science themes. Key colors: silver, pastel blue, midnight blue, neon yellow and orange.
Street Etiquette: “Taking cues from the urban streetwear scene, the Fall/Winter 2015 street etiquette trend is full of attitude and edgy aesthetics. Inspiration is pulled from older siblings who exude the cool factor while pulling straight A’s on their report cards. Kids have found a way to look sharp and be sharp. Intense highlights of unexpected color, as well as sassy statements ensure that these micro-adolescents do not go unnoticed. Traditional silhouettes are taken to the next level with eye-catching prints, clever graphics and witty text-based statements.” Key details include: Zentangle graphics, reflective topstitching , conversation patching, pastel camouflage, animal prints & logos. Key colors: red, purples, neon, neutrals, shades of blue.
Nostalgic Groove: “The 60s movement is enjoying a comeback through the nostalgic groove trend. Boxy, yet flattering silhouettes add a sophisticated touch to the wardrobes of today’s stylish tots.” Key details include: Peplum, color blocking, Peter Pan collars, oversized buttons, and paisley prints. Key colors: navy, cobalt blue, burnt orange, mustard yellow and burgundy.
Other fashion trends that I’ve come across are: circus, nordic, tartan, and enchanted. Perhaps my favorite colors for fall, that I’ve seen for both girls and women, are the jewel tones like merlot/burgundy purples, emerald greens and shades of blue.
