If your child is not enrolled in a gymnastics class, then something like a cartwheel might not come so easily for him or her. My eldest, who is 7, has been working on a cartwheel since the summer since a lot of her friends can do one. I can do one, but I found that it wasn’t as easy as “here just watch me” when it came to coaching her through the movies. I don’t remember when I learned how to do one, but it may have just come with a combination of gym class gymnastics and practicing with friends. Thankfully, there are a bazillion “how to” videos out there on YouTube to model after. I found the most adorable channel called Seven Gymnastics Girls which features instructional and fun video from teen girls. Below is their “How to do a Cartwheel” video which shows both the right and the wrong way to do one. They provide commentary over the action that highlights the moments and gives you things to think about. My daughter is on her way to a proper cartwheel thanks to the video and repetitive practice with her friends. As they say: “practice makes perfect!”
