It’s way cool to have pride for a place. Whether it’s your hometown, your college town, or where you grew up, you can easily put the name or zip code on display in the form of coasters, pillows, shirts, word collages, necklaces, and posters. One of my favorite visual representations of a place is a city grid map. Maybe it was growing up with a brother who was always drawing fictional cities on white poster board that made me appreciate the real thing, who knows. But there’s something really cool about peering super close to try and find street names, parks, and buildings that are familiar. If this is you too, then you have to check out Modern Map Art. They carry posters of cities (international and domestic), countries and even ski mountains! The company is still fairly new (2016) and was created out of the founder/designer’s appreciation for cultures and a love for maps from a very young age. They started with cities that they were familiar with in the United States and then expanded to all over the world. To date, they have 588 cities, 7 countries, 93 ski mountains, and 10 skylines. Don’t see your city? No worries! With their custom map tool, you can search for your city and create your poster in just a few easy clicks.
I was contacted to see if there was interest in the New Jersey city posters, and this Jersey born, raised, and still living girl couldn’t wait to check out the selection! There are 12 New Jersey posters, including Atlantic City, Avalon, Burlington, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Wildwood, Cape May, and New Brunswick. And then I got really excited to see that there was a Princeton city map since I live and work in the area (I’m actually right smack on the border of Princeton). I received an 18×24 poster, which is the perfect size for an office, bedroom, or dorm. (Full disclosure: If you follow me on Insta and saw my story, you would have seen that the “office” below is actually my daughter’s desk in her room since I don’t have an actual home office space)
Speaking of bedrooms and dorms, since this is back-to-school season, I thought Modern Map Art would make the perfect gift for a college-bound student or even a younger child who has an interest in places. In fact, my eldest daughter thought our Princeton poster was something you color in because of the black and white design. She was probably thinking back to the color-your-own wrapping paper that I found in a local shop. Below is a look at some of the best-selling city posters you can find on the site.
In addition to posters, which start at $29.99 for an 8×10, they also have skyline prints, iphone cases, ski mountain posters, and pillows.
I bet you’re excited to find your “place” now, right? Visit www.modernmapart.com to start shopping!
