Are your kids excited about Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new feature film “Moana”? The film tells the story about an adventurous teenager who, with help from demigod Maui, sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and save her people. Below is a look behind the scenes with interviews from filmmakers, voice talent, songwriters, and key advisors from the Pacific Islands.
Disney is continuing it’s long line of bold and fearless female heroines with Moana. The actress who portrays the teenager is Native Hawaiian Auli‘i Cravalho, whom the filmmakers discovered through video submissions for a fundraiser/talent show. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker made their debut with “The Great Mouse Detective,” and went on to write and direct some of Disney’s most beloved animated classics, including the undersea adventure “The Little Mermaid” in 1989, the hilarious hit “Aladdin” in 1992, 1997’s epic comedy “Hercules” and, most recently, 2009’s “The Princess and the Frog.”
Below is the trailer for Moana. The film opens on Thanksgiving-Eve, November 23, 2016.
